PVC herringbone floor in Moraira – 120 m² dryback
PVC herringbone floor in Moraira – 120 m² of dryback PVC
In this home in Moraira, we installed approximately 120 m² of dryback PVC in a herringbone pattern. The subfloor was first sanded, repaired with mortar where necessary, and then levelled.
The herringbone pattern was then installed through multiple rooms. The floor was finished with white skirting boards and overlay skirting boards, which were neatly caulked after installation.
The project in brief
- Location: Moraira
- Area: approximately 120 m²
- Floor type: dryback PVC
- Installation pattern: herringbone
- Preparation: sanding, mortar repairs and levelling
- Finishing: white skirting boards and caulked overlay skirting boards
Preparing the subfloor
A dryback PVC floor is glued directly to the subfloor. The base therefore needs to be flat and stable. For this project, the existing subfloor was sanded first, and irregularities were repaired with mortar.
The floor was then levelled. This created a flat surface on which the herringbone pattern could be accurately laid out and glued.

An unexpected inspector
After the floor was levelled, everyone thought the cat was outside. It turned out that the cat had hidden in a bedroom. When the door was opened again, the culprit walked straight through the fresh levelling compound.
The result was a clear trail of cat paw prints. The impressions were levelled again before we continued installing the PVC floor.
Gluing the PVC herringbone flooring
After the preparation, the herringbone pattern could be laid out. Dryback PVC was used for this home. The individual strips were glued directly to the levelled subfloor.
With herringbone flooring, the first lines determine the layout of the entire floor. That is why the pattern is carefully measured out before the rest of the room is installed.

Continued through multiple rooms
The PVC herringbone flooring continues through several rooms of the home. This creates one cohesive, calm look, with the same flooring running from the living room into areas including the bedroom.
Finishing with skirting boards and caulking
After installation, the floor was finished with white skirting boards. Where an existing skirting board had to be concealed, cover skirting boards were used.
The joints along the skirting boards were caulked after installation. The finish around corners and columns was also carefully tailored.
The final result
The final result is a continuous dryback PVC herringbone floor of approximately 120 m². The subfloor preparation, carefully laid-out pattern, and finish with skirting boards combine to create a sleek whole.

What should you really consider with a 120 m² dryback herringbone PVC floor in Moraira?
A good choice does not start with colour alone. We also assess the construction, wear layer, dimensional stability, pattern repetition, and suitability of click or dryback flooring. These factors determine whether a floor remains stable after installation, feels comfortable to walk on, and suits the home's everyday use. In an apartment, holiday home, or villa on the Costa Blanca, sun exposure, temperature fluctuations, and an existing tiled floor can also influence the technical choice.
So do not ask only about the price per square metre. Check what is included in the offer: subfloor preparation, levelling, underlay, adhesive, skirting boards, cutting waste, transport, and installation. Two quotes for the same area may technically include completely different work.
The subfloor determines the final result
A new floor always depends on the quality of its foundation. Loose tiles, deep joints, differences in height, residual moisture, and cracks must be assessed beforehand. A level floor is not automatically a suitable floor; stability and adhesion are just as important. During renovations, we also consider doors, sliding doors, kitchen plinths, and connections to other rooms.
By measuring accurately in advance, we prevent surprises during installation. We document what preparation is required and which system is technically appropriate. Sometimes direct installation is possible; in other cases, levelling or localised repairs are necessary. You cannot see this honest difference on a small colour sample, but you will see it in the final result.
Quality through Dutch suppliers
Port of Altea imports high-quality collections through Dutch suppliers. This allows us to offer materials with clear technical information, reliable collections, and finishes that are not always available in the standard local range. That does not mean every expensive floor is automatically good: the product must also suit the space and installation method.
In our showroom in La Nucía, you can view samples in daylight and compare different qualities side by side. If possible, bring photos, a floor plan, and approximate measurements. This allows us to give much more targeted advice on the material, colour, pattern, and expected preparation.
Practical checks before you decide
- Which rooms are included, and how intensively will they be used?
- Is there currently tile, screed, wood, or an existing floating floor?
- Are pets, strong sunlight, or underfloor heating important factors?
- Does the property need to remain accessible during the work?
- Which skirting board, transition, and finish suit the doors and frames?
