For living rooms, bedrooms, villas, and apartments on the Costa Blanca, we assess more than just colour. Flooring, sunlight, furniture, pets, maintenance, and acoustics together determine which rug will remain enjoyable for years.

Why size changes everything

A rug that is too small floats like a separate island between the furniture. The right size connects the sofa, armchairs, or dining table and makes the room look more serene. We consider the entire furniture arrangement, clear walking routes, and the distance to walls and doors.

In a seating area, at least the front legs of the main furniture pieces usually rest on the rug. Under a dining table, there should be enough space all around to pull chairs back without going over the edge. Custom sizing means you do not have to choose between just too small and unnecessarily large.

Standard size or custom-made rug

A standard size is quick and can work perfectly well with a simple layout. Custom sizing becomes attractive for wide sofas, long dining tables, organic spaces, or when a specific border clearance is desired. Cutouts and unusual shapes may also be possible, depending on the collection and finishing.

We measure the desired area and, if necessary, temporarily mark the outline on the floor. This lets you see how the size will work before ordering. Product dimensions, tolerances, and edge finishing are clearly recorded.

Wool, synthetic, or natural fiber

Wool feels comfortable, is resilient, and has a rich appearance. A synthetic fiber can be practical for intensive use and targeted stain care. Sisal and other natural fibers add texture, but react differently to moisture and stains. No material is automatically the best choice for every room.

We compare the pile, density, backing, usage class, and cleaning instructions. True quality lies not only in the fiber name or total weight; construction and suitability for the intended use are at least as important.

High-pile, low-pile, and textured

High-pile rugs provide softness and visual warmth, but require more maintenance and are less practical where chairs are frequently moved. Low-pile qualities look calmer and are easier to vacuum. Loops, cut pile, and mixed textures respond differently to footsteps, light, and pets.

View a sample straight on as well as from different directions. The pile direction and sunlight can make a color appear much lighter or darker. This is normal material behavior, not a color-changing trick of the rug.

Choosing a color in Spanish light

Bright daylight makes colors look different from those in a catalog or on a phone screen. We place samples next to the floor, sofa, and curtain fabric and assess warm and cool undertones. A neutral rug does not have to be exactly the same color as the floor; a controlled contrast often adds more depth.

In homes with lots of sand, children, or pets, a mottled texture may be more practical than a plain light shade. However, practical does not automatically mean dark: on very dark rugs, light hairs and dust are actually more visible.

Underfloor heating, PVC, and tiled floors

A rug always creates some thermal resistance. With underfloor heating, we consider the material, backing, pile, and covered area, and follow the specifications for the flooring and heating system. A very thick rug with a dense backing can restrict heat transfer more significantly.

On smooth PVC or tile floors, non-slip backing may be necessary. The underlay must be suitable for the particular floor and must not cause plasticiser damage or discolouration. Also check and clean underneath the rug; trapped sand acts like sandpaper.

Pets and daily maintenance

For dogs and cats, pile height, loop construction, colour, and cleanability are important. Long, loose loops can be more vulnerable to claws. A flecked, low-pile quality is often easier to manage with pet hair and intensive use, but the best choice depends on the animal and the room.

Vacuum according to the material-care advice, blot stains immediately, and do not scrub aggressively. Do not use just any all-purpose cleaner: it may cause residue, discolouration, or a larger ring. Test every product in an inconspicuous area first, and arrange professional cleaning promptly for valuable materials.

Acoustics and comfort

A rug absorbs some reflected sound and makes hard interiors more comfortable. The effect depends on the surface area, pile, underlay, and the rest of the room. One small rug will not solve a complete acoustic problem, but a generous size can make voices and footfall noticeably softer.

What determines the price?

The price is determined by the material, construction, dimensions, shape, edge finishing, and brand or collection. With custom-made rugs, the actual surface area counts, and minimum production dimensions may apply. Organic contours and hand-finishing require different production methods from a straight standard size.

A good quotation specifies quality, colour, exact dimensions, shape, finishing, and any non-slip backing. This allows you to compare the same product rather than just a square-metre price that omits the most important details.
