Choose the profile colour carefully. A profile in the frame colour blends in visually; contrast emphasises the horizontal lines and can visually divide a small window.

Installation on the glazing bead, sash, wall, or ceiling

Installation close to the glass is compact and often moves with the window. Wall or ceiling installation can provide more overlap, but requires clearance for the window sash, package, and controls.

The suitable configuration may be in the recess, on the frame, wall, or ceiling, with appropriate fixings and clearance for windows, doors, air conditioning, and roller shutters to operate freely. Mark the position out beforehand and test every moving window in its fully open position.

Check the actual substrate before choosing fixing materials. Plastic, aluminium, wood, stone, and hollow walls each require a different installation approach.

Package height and clear window opening

Raised pleated blinds disappear into a compact stack, but not completely. The height, fabric type, number of layers, and profiles determine how much space is needed at the top.

For doors and tall windows, the stack must be able to remain outside the clear opening. Ask for the expected dimensions rather than assuming a small showroom sample.

View the product fully open, half-open, and closed. The frequently used intermediate position in particular determines whether the stack, handle, and sightline are comfortable in daily use.

Manual, cordless, or electric operation

The possible operating methods are manual operation, safe operation, or motorisation, depending on the system, dimensions, weight, power supply, and daily use. Handles are intuitive when they remain accessible; cords require safety devices; motorisation helps with height or multiple systems.

Record who will use the product, which intermediate positions are needed, and whether the controls will remain accessible behind furniture, a bath, kitchen worktop, or desk.

For motorised systems, test and record the limit positions, groups, transmitters, and power supply during handover. Also keep information about charging, resetting, and manual emergency operation.

Child safety

Ensure bathroom and kitchen windows have sufficient ventilation. Moisture that remains trapped between the fabric, glass, and profile for extended periods can accelerate soiling and material stress.

Casement, tilt-and-turn, and sliding windows

The window covering must preserve the window’s original function. Check the handle, tilt angle, ventilation grille, insect screen, and any collision with the recess or adjacent sash.

For Venetian blinds, window-mounted installation can be very practical, provided the profile and guides are compatible. Always test the window fully open before production.

Open each window as far as possible during the survey. A difference of a few centimetres can determine whether the window covering, insect screen, ventilation, or cleaning will function properly later.

Special and unusual window shapes

Pleated blinds and Duette are available for some triangular, trapezoidal, or roof windows, but not every shape can open fully or use the same operating method.

A template, drawing, or specialist site assessment may be necessary. Discuss in advance which part moves and where a fixed section of fabric will remain visible.

For unusual shapes, ask for a clear sketch showing the open and closed positions. A system can be made to fit, while its range of movement may be more limited than that of a rectangle.

Combining curtains with solar shading
