Dryback PVC or click PVC?

When choosing a PVC floor, we distinguish between dryback PVC and click PVC. The floors may look almost identical, but their installation methods and technical properties differ considerably.

Dryback PVC

Dryback PVC, also known as glue-down PVC or glued PVC, is bonded directly to a levelled subfloor. This provides a sleek and stable result with a low build-up height.

We regularly recommend dryback PVC for homes with large open spaces, lots of direct sunlight, or large sliding doors. For herringbone and chevron patterns, a glued floor generally also provides the most seamless and refined final result.

Click PVC

Click PVC is installed as a floating floor using a click system. Many modern click floors have a sturdy SPC core, and some versions include an integrated underlay.

When the existing subfloor is stable and sufficiently level, click PVC can sometimes be installed without full smoothing. This can make installation faster and limit the preparatory work required.

However, click PVC is not automatically suitable for every home. Direct sunlight, temperature differences, the size of the room, and the flatness of the existing floor remain important considerations.

Skirting boards, profiles, cutting waste, repairs to the subfloor, removal of an existing floor, and adjustments to doors are not included as standard in these basic prices.

Can PVC be installed over an existing tiled floor?

Many homes on the Costa Blanca already have a tiled floor. It does not necessarily need to be removed. If the tiles are stable and firmly bonded, the existing floor can often be used as the base for a new PVC floor.

Before providing advice, we check, among other things:

• whether the tiles are stable and firmly bonded;
• whether there are cracks or loose tiles;
• how deep and wide the joints are;
• whether there are differences in floor height;
• or whether there is sufficient clearance around doors and sliding doors;
• or whether there are moisture problems or other technical considerations.

With dryback PVC, we smooth the subfloor before the floor is glued down. With click PVC, full smoothing is not always necessary, but the tiled floor must meet the flatness requirements of the chosen flooring system.

Why is smoothing so important?

A tiled floor may appear level at first glance, while still containing joints, damage, and small differences in height. With glued-down PVC, these imperfections may later become visible on the surface.

With a suitable primer and smoothing layer, we create a level and stable base. This helps the floor adhere evenly and prevents joints and imperfections from showing through the new floor.

The preparation required varies from property to property. Sometimes a standard levelling layer is sufficient; in other situations, loose tiles, cracks or larger differences in height must first be repaired.

Straight plank, herringbone or Hungarian point?

Straight PVC planks

A straight plank creates a calm, spacious result. Wide and long planks work well in open-plan living spaces, while smaller formats can be practical in apartments and rooms with many corners.

Herringbone PVC

Herringbone flooring gives an interior more rhythm and a luxurious appearance. Because the pattern must be laid out precisely and requires more cutting, material usage and installation costs are generally higher than for straight planks.

Hungarian point and Viennese point

With a Hungarian point or Viennese point pattern, the planks are placed against each other at an angle. This creates an elegant, understated variation on the classic herringbone pattern. A level subfloor and precise installation are especially important here.

Tile- and concrete-look PVC

In addition to wood designs, we supply PVC flooring in various tile and concrete looks. These floors are a good fit for modern homes and create the appearance of a cast floor or tiled floor, while offering the comfort and easy maintenance of PVC.

Frequently asked questions about PVC flooring in Spain

Which is cheaper: dryback or click PVC?

Click PVC often has lower preparation costs if the existing floor is sufficiently level. Dryback PVC is usually more affordable as a loose material, but it requires leveling and adhesive installation. The total price must therefore be calculated for each home.

Does a tiled floor need to be removed first?

No, that is often not necessary. When the existing tiles are stable, the new floor can usually be installed over the tiled floor. However, the subfloor must be inspected and suitably prepared.

Is PVC suitable for areas with lots of sunlight?

That depends on the product selected, the floor construction, and the situation in the home. With large windows and a lot of direct sunlight, we often recommend a stable, fully adhered floor. The technical specifications of the selected product always take precedence.

Can you supply the flooring only?

Yes, we can supply the flooring only. For the best result, we can also take measurements, prepare the subfloor, install the flooring, and complete the finishing.

Can I view the flooring in person first?

Yes. In our showroom, you can view various PVC floors, colors, and textures. Large samples provide a much better impression of a floor than a small photo or catalog image.
