Vinyl is easy to keep clean when sand is removed regularly and little cleaning product is used. Avoid aggressive solvents and rubber or plasticiser-containing caps, which can cause discolouration. Protect heavy furniture and do not allow spilled liquids to run under the edges.

At handover, ask which cleaner and protection are suitable for the chosen floor. Maintenance advice should be specific: how often to clean, how much product to use and what to do in the event of stains or damage. This helps prevent well-intentioned but damaging cleaning experiments.

The price consists of more than just the material. Surface area, cutting waste, pattern, preparation, adhesive or underlay, skirting boards, profiles, transport and accessibility all count.
