Vinyl over tiles in Spain
In many homes on the Costa Blanca, there is already an existing tiled floor. This makes vinyl an interesting option for renovation, as you can give the space a warmer, quieter, and more comfortable appearance without immediately removing the entire tiled floor.
It is important to carefully examine the substrate. Vinyl follows the base on which it is laid. Grout lines, height differences, or unevenness can become visible if the floor is not properly prepared.
Request advice for your homeCan vinyl be installed over existing tiles?
Yes, vinyl can often be installed over existing tiles. But that does not automatically mean every tiled floor is immediately suitable. The quality of the final result depends heavily on the flatness, stability, and structure of the existing floor.
Especially in Spanish homes, we often see tiled floors with deep grout lines, small height differences, or slight movement in the substrate. This does not have to be a problem, as long as it is properly assessed in advance what preparation is needed.

Why the substrate is so important
Vinyl is comfortable and flexible, but precisely because of this, the substrate shows through more quickly than with some other flooring solutions. A tiled floor with distinct grout lines can become visible in the vinyl over time, especially if no proper preparation has been applied.
That is why we look at the existing floor in every home before giving advice. Sometimes a suitable underlayment is sufficient. In other situations, leveling is the better choice to create a calm, flat base.
The goal is not to make the renovation more complicated than necessary, but to ensure that the floor matches the desired result. A beautiful vinyl floor always starts with a solid foundation.
Leveling or a suitable underlayment
When the grout lines are deep or the tiled floor is not flat enough, we often advise leveling the floor first. This creates a smoother base and significantly reduces the chance of telegraphing.
In some situations, a suitable underlayment can also be a good solution. This depends on the type of vinyl, the condition of the tiled floor, the use of the space, and the desired finish.
We assess this per project. An apartment, bedroom, or holiday home sometimes requires a different approach than a large open living space with lots of natural light and intensive daily use.

A comfortable renovation floor
Vinyl is a great choice when you want to quickly and stylishly refresh an existing home. The floor feels softer than tiles, reduces footstep noise, and immediately adds warmth to the space.
Especially in Spanish homes with many hard materials, vinyl can create a calmer and more comfortable environment. Think of bedrooms, apartments, guest accommodations, or holiday homes where ease of maintenance and comfort are important.
