PVC herringbone flooring over tiles in Hondón de las Nieves
In this home in Hondón de las Nieves, there was tiled flooring throughout almost the entire house traditional tiled floor. The residents wanted a floor that felt warmer feels and brings more atmosphere to the home. The tiles did not need to be needed to be removed: after the right preparation, the new PVC herringbone flooring could be laid over it.
From a cool tiled floor to a warm wood look
Tiles are practical in the Spanish climate, but they can also make a home can feel quite cold. You notice the difference especially in winter. The residents were therefore looking for a floor with the look of wood, without the maintenance associated with a real wooden floor.
The choice fell on glued-down PVC herringbone flooring. The light wood colour fits beautifully with the natural light in the home and enhances the different rooms feel instantly warmer and cosier.
The existing tiled floor as a subfloor
The tiled floor in this home was still in good condition. There were no loose tiles and the differences in height were limited. Nevertheless, glued-down PVC not be laid directly over a tiled floor. The grout lines and small otherwise become visible later.
We therefore first thoroughly inspected and prepared the subfloor. The floor was then levelled, eliminating the grout lines and giving us a a level surface to which we could glue the herringbone flooring.

The herringbone pattern continued into the bathroom
In this project, the same PVC flooring was also installed in the bathroom. As a result, the floor does not stop at the door, so there is no disruptive transition to a different material.
Especially in a home with several adjoining rooms, one a continuous floor creates a much calmer look. The bathroom also feels less cold than with the original tiled floor.
The end result
The herringbone pattern flows beautifully throughout the home and complements the light walls and the interior. The wood look gives the rooms more warmth, while the floor practical and easy to keep clean.
Because the PVC could be laid over the existing tiles, it was not needed to remove the entire old floor. However, we did need to prepare the subfloor first properly addressed. You no longer see that work afterwards, but it determines how beautiful the new floor looks.

What should you really look out for with a herringbone PVC floor over tiles in Hondón de las Nieves?
A good choice does not start with colour alone. We also assess construction, wear layer, dimensional stability, pattern repetition and whether click or dryback is suitable. These factors determine whether a floor remains stable after installation, feels comfortable to walk on and suits the home's everyday use. The subfloor determines the final result
A new floor always depends on the quality of the base. Loose tiles, deep grout lines, differences in height, residual moisture and cracks must be assessed beforehand. A level floor is not automatically a suitable floor; stability and adhesion are at least as important. During renovations, we also look at doors, sliding doors, kitchen plinths and connections to other rooms.
By measuring accurately in advance, we prevent surprises during installation. We record what preparation is needed and which system is technically the most sensible. Sometimes direct installation is possible; sometimes levelling or local repairs are necessary. You will not see that honest difference on a small colour sample, but you will see it in the final result.
