Sleek PVC renovation over existing tiled floor in Spain

In Hondón de las Nieves, we fully installed a new PVC herringbone floor over the existing tiled floor in this home. The residents wanted more warmth and atmosphere in the house, while the floor also had to remain practical and low-maintenance for daily use.

As with many homes on the Costa Blanca, the base consisted of a traditional tiled floor. Although tiles are common in Spain, they often feel very cold in practice. Especially in the winter months or in homes without underfloor heating, a tiled floor can become quite chilly. That was also one of the main reasons here to look for an alternative.

The choice ultimately fell on a glued dryback PVC floor in a herringbone pattern. PVC not only feels warmer and more comfortable than tiles but also immediately creates a much calmer and more atmospheric look in the home.

In this case, the existing tiled floor was still in good condition. There were no loose tiles, and the height differences were relatively minor. Still, good preparation remains essential when placing a PVC floor over existing tiles.

For this project, we checked and prepared the entire subfloor to create a stable and smooth base for the new floor. Precision is especially important with a herringbone floor because small deviations in the subfloor become more visible due to the laying pattern.

With the right preparation, not only a more beautiful final result is achieved, but the floor also remains much more stable in the long term.

What makes this project extra special is that the PVC floor was also extended into the bathroom. This allows the floor to flow smoothly between the different spaces, creating much more unity in the home.
