In La Nucía, we completely installed a new PVC herringbone floor over the existing tile floor in a house.

As is often the case in Spain, the subfloor was anything but flat and stable. The house had loose tiles, height differences, and several curves in the rooms.

These kinds of situations require a technical approach, not just a beautiful floor.

The challenge: tile floor with movement and height differences

Upon arrival, we immediately saw several problems in the existing floor:

- loose and hollow-sounding tiles
- large height differences between rooms
- transitions that were not level
- curves in walls and corners
- risk of grout lines showing through

These are exactly the conditions where a PVC floor without preparation is guaranteed to cause problems.

The solution: stable base and full leveling

To guarantee a durable result, we addressed the entire subfloor before installing the new floor.

Loose tiles were checked and fixed, the subfloor was prepared and cleaned, and then we applied a full leveling layer.

Additionally, all height differences were smoothed out to create a tight and stable base for the herringbone pattern.

Especially with herringbone PVC, small deviations or unevenness quickly show in the final result. That’s why quality always starts with the base underneath.

The chosen PVC herringbone floor

After full preparation, the PVC herringbone floor was carefully installed, including precisely finishing all curves and connections in the house.

For this project, a glued dryback PVC floor was chosen because of its stability and clean final look.

Especially in Spanish homes with large temperature differences and existing tile floors, we often recommend dryback PVC.

The final result

The final result is a perfectly flat floor with a high-quality herringbone appearance, fully tailored to the house.

No visible grout lines, no height differences, and no risk of long-term problems.
