Why size changes everything

A rug that is too small floats like a separate island between the furniture. The right size connects the sofa, armchairs, or dining table and makes the room look calmer. We consider the entire furniture layout, clear walkways, and the distance from walls and doors.

In a seating area, at least the front legs of the main furniture pieces are usually placed on the rug. Under a dining table, there should be enough space around it to pull chairs back without falling off the edge. Custom sizing prevents you from having to choose between just too small and unnecessarily large.

Standard size or custom rug

A standard size is quick and can work perfectly well with a simple layout. Custom sizing becomes useful with wide sofas, long dining tables, organic spaces, or when a specific border of floor space is desired. Cutouts and unusual shapes may also be possible, depending on the collection and finish.

We measure the desired area and can temporarily mark the outline on the floor. This lets you see how the size will look before ordering. Production sizes, tolerances, and edge finishing are clearly recorded.

Wool, synthetic, or natural fiber

Wool feels comfortable, is resilient, and has a rich appearance. A synthetic fiber can be practical for intensive use and targeted stain treatment. Sisal and other natural fibers add texture but respond differently to moisture and stains. No material is automatically the best choice for every room.

We compare pile, density, backing, usage class, and cleaning advice. True quality depends not only on the fiber name or total weight; construction and suitability for the intended use are just as important.

High pile, low pile, and texture

High-pile rugs provide softness and visual warmth but require more maintenance and are less convenient where chairs are frequently moved. Low-pile qualities look calmer and are easier to vacuum. Loops, cut pile, and mixed textures respond differently to footsteps, light, and pets.

View a sample both straight on and from different directions. Pile direction and sunlight can make a color appear much lighter or darker. This is normal material behavior, not a color-changing trick by the rug.

Choosing color in Spanish light

Bright daylight makes colors look different from those in a catalog or on a phone screen. We place samples next to the floor, sofa, and curtain fabric and examine warm and cool undertones. A neutral rug does not have to match the floor exactly; a controlled contrast often adds more depth.

In homes with a lot of sand, children, or pets, a mottled texture can be more practical than a solid light shade. Practical does not automatically mean dark, however: light hair and dust are actually more visible on very dark rugs.

Underfloor heating, PVC, and tiled floors

A rug always creates some thermal resistance. With underfloor heating, we consider the material, backing, pile, and covered surface area and follow the specifications of the flooring and heating systems. A very thick rug with dense backing can restrict heat transfer more significantly.

On smooth PVC or tiles, an anti-slip underlay may be necessary. This underlay must be suitable for the specific floor and must not cause plasticizer migration or discoloration. Also check and clean underneath the rug; trapped sand can otherwise act like sandpaper.

Pets and everyday maintenance

With dogs and cats, pile height, loop construction, color, and cleanability are important. Long, loose loops can be more vulnerable to claws. A mottled low-pile quality is often easier to manage with hair and intensive use, but the best choice depends on the animal and the room.

Vacuum according to the material instructions, blot stains immediately, and do not scrub aggressively. Do not use a random all-purpose cleaner: it can cause residue, discoloration, or a larger ring. Test every product in an inconspicuous area first and arrange professional cleaning promptly for valuable materials.

Acoustics and comfort

A rug absorbs some reflected sound and makes hard interiors more comfortable. The effect depends on the surface area, pile, underlay, and the rest of the room. One small rug will not solve a complete acoustic problem, but a generous size can make voices and footfall noticeably softer.

What determines the price?

Price is determined by the material, construction, dimensions, shape, edge finishing, and brand or collection. With custom sizing, the actual surface area is calculated, and minimum production sizes may apply. Organic contours and hand-finishing require a different production process from a straight standard size.

A good quote specifies the quality, color, exact dimensions, shape, finish, and any anti-slip feature. This allows you to compare the same product rather than just a price per square meter while the most important details are still missing.
