For homeowners and interior projects on the Costa Blanca, we assess more than just colour. Flooring type, sunlight, furniture, pets, maintenance and acoustics together determine which rug will remain comfortable for years.
Why size changes everything
A rug that is too small floats like a separate island between the furniture. The right size connects the sofa, armchairs or dining table and makes the room look calmer. We consider the complete furniture layout, clear walkways and the distance from walls and doors.
In a seating area, at least the front legs of the main furniture pieces should usually sit on the rug. Under a dining table, there should be enough space around it to pull chairs back without falling off the edge. Custom sizing prevents you from having to choose between just too small and unnecessarily large.
Standard size or custom rug
A standard size is quick and can work perfectly well with a simple layout. Custom sizing becomes interesting with wide sofas, long dining tables, organic spaces or when a specific border is desired. Cut-outs and unusual shapes may also be possible, depending on the collection and finishing.
We measure the desired area and, if necessary, temporarily mark the outline on the floor. This lets you see how the size will look before ordering. Production dimensions, tolerances and edge finishing are recorded clearly.
Wool, synthetic or natural fibre
Wool feels comfortable, is resilient and has a rich appearance. Synthetic fibres can be practical for intensive use and targeted stain treatment. Sisal and other natural fibres add texture, but react differently to moisture and stains. No material is automatically the winner for every room.
We compare pile, density, backing, usage class and cleaning advice. True quality lies not only in the fibre name or total weight; construction and suitability for the intended use are at least as important.
High-pile, low-pile and textured rugs
High-pile rugs provide softness and visual warmth, but require more maintenance and are less convenient where chairs are often moved. Low-pile qualities look calmer and are easier to vacuum. Loops, cut pile and mixed textures respond differently to footprints, light and pets.
View a sample both straight on and from different directions. Pile direction and sunlight can make a colour appear much lighter or darker. This is normal material behaviour, not a colour-changing trick of the rug.
Choosing colour in Spanish light
Bright daylight makes colours look different from those in a catalogue or on a phone screen. We place samples next to the floor, sofa and curtain fabric and assess warm and cool undertones. A neutral rug does not have to match the floor exactly; controlled contrast often adds more depth.
In homes with lots of sand, children or pets, a mottled texture may be more practical than a solid light shade. Practical does not automatically mean dark, however: light hair and dust are often more visible on very dark rugs.
Underfloor heating, PVC and tiled floors
A rug always creates some thermal resistance. With underfloor heating, we consider the material, backing, pile and covered surface area and follow the requirements of the flooring and heating system. A very thick rug with a dense backing can restrict heat transfer more significantly.
On smooth PVC or tiles, an anti-slip underlay may be necessary. This underlay must be suitable for the specific floor and must not cause plasticiser migration or discolouration. Also check and clean underneath the rug; trapped sand otherwise acts like sandpaper.
Pets and daily maintenance
With dogs and cats, pile height, loop construction, colour and cleanability are important. Long, loose loops can be more vulnerable to claws. A mottled low-pile quality is often easier to manage with pet hair and intensive use, but the best choice depends on the animal and the room.
Vacuum according to the material-care instructions, blot stains immediately and do not scrub aggressively. Do not use just any all-purpose cleaner: it can leave residue, cause discolouration or create a larger ring. Always test a product in an inconspicuous area first and arrange professional cleaning promptly for valuable materials.
Acoustics and comfort
A rug absorbs some reflected sound and makes hard interiors more comfortable. The effect depends on the surface area, pile, underlay and the rest of the room. One small rug will not solve a complete acoustic problem, but a generous size can make voices and footfall noticeably softer.

What determines the price?
Price is determined by the material, construction, dimensions, shape, edge finishing and brand or collection. With custom rugs, the actual surface area counts, and minimum production dimensions may apply. Organic contours and handmade finishing require a different production process than a straight standard size.
A good quotation specifies the quality, colour, exact dimensions, shape, finishing and any anti-slip underlay. This allows you to compare the same product rather than just a square-metre price that leaves the most important details unspecified.
