A long service life starts with a product suited to the level of use. Accurate measuring, proper preparation, and maintenance according to the material are more important than marketing promises.
A bedroom, living room, rental apartment, or villa has different requirements. Therefore, note who uses the room, what inconvenience you currently experience, and what level of maintenance you find acceptable. This prevents an attractive solution from becoming disappointing in everyday use.
What makes roll vinyl interesting?
Roll vinyl can provide comfortable and practical flooring across wide sections with few seams. Quality is not determined by a single characteristic. Also consider roll width, protective layer, indentation resistance, fixing, and the levelness of the subfloor. Ask for an explanation of the complete composition, not just the visible color or collection.
A sample is intended for assessing the material, but it does not automatically show how repetition, direction, drape, or texture will look across a large surface. Therefore, view several samples in daylight and place them next to walls, the kitchen, furniture, and existing materials.
Technology before decoration
First check the base to which or on which the product will be installed. For flooring, this concerns levelness, stability, moisture, existing tiles, doors, and skirting boards. For window coverings, this concerns the window frame, wall, or ceiling; the free movement of windows, shutters, and handles; and the available installation space.
Temperature and solar exposure also play a role. Large expanses of glass can cause significant local heat. Materials must be suitable for their position and installed according to the technical specifications.
Measuring prevents costly remedial work
Photos and overall dimensions help provide an initial price estimate. For custom work, we measure precisely and check deviations, corners, recesses, and connections. For continuous flooring, sightlines and transition points are determined in advance; for curtains and systems, stack space and operation determine whether doors and windows remain usable.
Record the final specification in writing. Consider direction, pattern, colour, operating side, installation height, baseboards, tracks, and profiles. An oral detail is particularly difficult to trace after production.
What determines a complete price?
The price consists of both materials and execution. For flooring, this includes levelling, adhesive or underlay, cutting waste, baseboards, profiles, and installation. For window coverings, it includes, among other things, fabric quantity, making-up, tracks, brackets, operation, and installation.
Therefore, compare quotes line by line. A lower material price may disappear once necessary preparation or finishing is added later. Ask what is explicitly not included; that question often provides more clarity than negotiating over a standalone price per square metre.
Colour and appearance in Spanish light
Bright daylight can make cool colours look harsher and warm tones look yellower. Dark materials show dust or sand more quickly, while extremely light colours can appear more susceptible to the effects of daily use. A mottled or natural mid-tone is often forgiving.
View the material at different times of day. Pay attention not only to colour, but also to sheen, transparency, pile direction, pattern repetition, and how the surface appears from adjoining rooms.
Maintenance and daily use
Remove sand and loose dirt regularly before they cause abrasion. Use cleaning products specifically suited to the material and use them sparingly. Treat a stain calmly according to the instructions; vigorous rubbing often makes the damage worse.
Protect floors beneath furniture and check window products for unobstructed movement. Do not force anything that moves stiffly. Early attention to a loose connection, unusual noise, or misalignment prevents higher repair costs.

A plan for an apartment, villa, or holiday home
An apartment often requires a low-profile installation, limited installation time, and attention to sound. In a villa, large surfaces, tall windows, and uninterrupted sightlines play a greater role. In a holiday home, materials must be easy to manage and able to withstand changing users.
Combine solutions when it makes sense. A hard floor in the living area can be combined with carpet in bedrooms; transparent window coverings during the day can be combined with blackout curtains for the evening. Function can vary by room while colour and style remain cohesive.
Planning alongside other work
A floor or window covering is rarely completely separate from painting, kitchen installation, electrical work or new doors. Decide in advance which tradesperson comes first and which measurement depends on a finished wall, floor or ceiling. Measuring too early can mean that the final situation changes by a few millimetres or centimetres.
Protect new materials during subsequent work and agree who will move furniture, remove existing products and dispose of waste. A clear sequence of work prevents rushing, damage and disputes on the installation day.
What can you check upon completion?
Do not only look at the overall picture. Also check edges, seams, skirting boards, profiles, rails, brackets, controls and connections at doors or window frames. Walk on or operate the product calmly and ask immediately about any detail that is unclear.
Ask what maintenance is permitted from the first day and keep the product information and colour details. This is helpful if a component, additional room or extra window later needs to be completed in the same style.
