Vinyl Flooring: Stylish, Practical and Surprisingly Versatile

Vinyl vloeren: stijlvol, praktisch en verrassend veelzijdig

Are you renovating on the Costa Blanca? Recently moved into your home in Altea, Albir or the surrounding area? Or upgrading your holiday property? Everything starts with the foundation: the floor.

And honestly… vinyl is not always the first thing people think of. Until they discover how versatile, comfortable and smart this choice really is.

At Port of Altea, we see it all the time: customers who hesitate at first, then are genuinely surprised by what modern vinyl can offer.

What is vinyl flooring?

Vinyl flooring (formerly known as “linoleum” or sheet flooring) is a flexible synthetic floor covering supplied on rolls – usually 2, 3 or 4 metres wide.

It consists of multiple layers, topped with a durable wear layer that protects against scratches, stains and heavy use.

The result?

A floor with the look of wood, concrete or tiles – but:

  • warmer

  • quieter

  • more comfortable

  • easier to maintain

And good news: our new 4-metre-wide vinyl samples have arrived in the showroom. Fewer seams, a calmer overall look and perfect for larger living spaces or open kitchens.

Why do so many clients in our region choose vinyl?

1. Perfect for Mediterranean interiors

Modern vinyl is almost indistinguishable from real materials.

✔ Warm wood tones for light interiors
✔ Concrete looks for modern villas
✔ Tile designs without cold grout lines
✔ Soft natural shades that match Spanish daylight

Whether you are furnishing a villa in Altea Hills or renovating an apartment in Albir, vinyl adapts effortlessly.

2. Comfort on tile floors? Absolutely.

Many Spanish homes have concrete or ceramic tile bases. Practical, yes. Comfortable? Not always.

Vinyl:

  • feels softer underfoot

  • reduces sound

  • works well with underfloor heating

  • adds warmth instantly

Ideal for permanent living and holiday homes alike.

3. Water-resistant and suitable for Spanish living

Beach sand. Wet feet from the pool. A spilled glass of wine.

Vinyl handles it all.

Suitable for:

  • Kitchens

  • Bathrooms

  • Utility rooms

  • Rental properties

  • Homes with pets

A smart, worry-free solution for intensive use.

4. Low maintenance

Vacuum, sweep and mop occasionally with a mild cleaner. No complicated products. No stress over small accidents.

5. Affordable without compromise

Vinyl offers:

✔ A luxurious look
✔ Comfort
✔ Durability
✔ Attractive pricing per m²

Vinyl or PVC – what do we recommend?

Vinyl comes on rolls and is quicker to install.
PVC is installed in planks or tiles, for example in herringbone patterns.

Vinyl is often less labour-intensive and more cost-effective. PVC offers more structural and pattern options.

The right choice depends on:

  • Subfloor condition

  • Usage

  • Budget

  • Desired appearance

We always assess your situation first. No standard advice.
