UZIN PE 280 Carbon Special Primer

UZIN PE 280 is a ready-to-use, solvent-free bonding primer with carbon technology. The primer was specially developed for smooth, dense and non-absorbent substrates onto which a UZIN smoothing compound is subsequently applied.

After drying, the carbon fibers create a rough surface with strong adhesion. This creates a reliable bond between the existing substrate and the smoothing layer. UZIN PE 280 dries very quickly, is easy to apply with a roller and has a pasty consistency, making it suitable for walls as well.

Key properties

  • Ready to use
  • Solvent-free dispersion primer
  • For smooth and non-absorbent substrates
  • Carbon technology for a rough bonding surface
  • Very fast-drying
  • Drying time of approximately 30–60 minutes
  • Very low emissions
  • Pasty consistency
  • Barely drips, making it suitable for walls as well
  • Easy to apply with a roller
  • Suitable under UZIN smoothing compounds
  • Suitable for underfloor heating
  • For indoor use

Applications

UZIN PE 280 is used as a bonding primer before smoothing a smooth or dense substrate.

Suitable for, among other things:

  • Smooth and dense concrete surfaces
  • Ceramic tiles and quarry tiles
  • Natural stone
  • Terrazzo
  • Water-resistant paint coatings
  • Well-bonded epoxy coatings
  • Metal substrates
  • Old renovation substrates
  • Well-bonded and water-resistant adhesive residues
  • Synthetic resin adhesive residues
  • Neoprene adhesive residues
  • Bitumen adhesive residues
  • Dispersion adhesive residues
  • Old unsanded mastic asphalt floors
  • Well-secured wooden substrates
  • Unsanded epoxy and PU primers
  • Substrates with hydronic underfloor heating
  • Floors subjected to loads from swivel castors

The suitability of old adhesive, coating and smoothing compound residues must always be checked in advance. Non-water-resistant or poorly bonded residues must be removed or sealed with a suitable system.

When should you use PE 280 and when PE 360 PLUS?

  • UZIN PE 280: for smooth, dense and non-absorbent substrates, such as tiles, coatings and terrazzo.
  • UZIN PE 360 PLUS: for absorbent substrates, such as sand-cement screeds, cement screeds and absorbent concrete.

That distinction is important: a primer is not a sauce that tastes the same everywhere.

Substrate preparation

The substrate must be load-bearing, dimensionally stable, permanently dry and clean, and free of cracks and substances that could impair adhesion.

Remove loose and poorly adhering layers, old floor covering residues, and insufficiently adhering adhesive or levelling compound residues by brushing, sanding, milling, or dustless blasting. Then vacuum the substrate thoroughly.

Check existing adhesive and levelling compound residues for adhesion and water resistance. Smooth, dense substrates must be degreased and, if necessary, mechanically roughened.

Metal must be free of rust, grease, oil, and other contaminants.

Application

  1. Allow the sealed container to reach application temperature before use.
  2. Stir the primer thoroughly.
  3. Apply UZIN PE 280 evenly and completely with a nylon roller of approximately 14 mm.
  4. Use a brush for edges, corners, and hard-to-reach areas.
  5. Spread the primer thoroughly and avoid thick layers and pooling.
  6. Allow the primer to dry completely before applying the levelling compound.
  7. Clean the tools used immediately after application with water.

After drying, the yellow primer must form an even, rough, and completely sealed bonding layer.

Consumption and drying time

Substrate/application Consumption Drying time
Smooth and dense substrates approx. 70–150 g/m² approx. 30–60 minutes
Rough or slightly absorbent substrates up to approx. 150 g/m² at least approx. 60 minutes

The drying time applies at approximately 20 °C and 65% relative humidity. Low temperatures, high humidity, and a thick applied layer extend the drying time.

Coverage per bucket

Consumption Coverage per 12 kg bucket
70 g/m² approx. 171 m²
100 g/m² approx. 120 m²
120 g/m² approx. 100 m²
150 g/m² approx. 80 m²

Actual coverage depends on the structure and condition of the substrate.

Why choose UZIN PE 280?

UZIN PE 280 enables smooth and dense substrates to be reliably levelled. The carbon technology creates a rough bonding surface to which the levelling compound can adhere firmly.

The primer is ready to use, dries very quickly, and is easy to apply to both floors and walls. This makes it particularly suitable for renovations where existing tiles, coatings, or other dense substrates are to be retained.
