UZIN PE 400 Moisture Barrier 12 kg
€229,95
Taxes incluses.

UZIN PE 400 is a ready-to-use, solvent-free dispersion moisture barrier for isolating residual moisture in cement-based floors. The product is applied before the floor is smoothed and is suitable for cement and sand-cement screeds above ground level.

When used as a moisture barrier, UZIN PE 400 is applied in two coats. The first coat is diluted 1:1 with water and ensures good anchoring in the substrate. The second coat is applied undiluted and forms the moisture-insulating film.

Under good conditions, both coats can be smoothed approximately three hours after application begins.

Key properties

  • Ready to use
  • Solvent-free
  • Very fast-drying
  • Film-forming
  • Alkali-resistant
  • High vapor impermeability
  • Easy to apply with a roller
  • Maximum residual moisture content of 4 CM-% on suitable sand-cement screeds
  • First coat diluted, second coat undiluted
  • Can be smoothed after approximately three hours
  • For cement-based floors above ground level
  • Suitable for indoor use
  • Very low emissions according to EMICODE EC 1 PLUS

Suitable as a moisture barrier

UZIN PE 400 can be applied as a two-coat moisture barrier on:

  • Cement-based screeds
  • Sand-cement screeds
  • Moisture-insensitive cement-based substrates
  • New cement screeds with an elevated residual moisture content
  • Suitable floors above ground level
  • Sand-cement screeds with a maximum residual moisture content of 4 CM-%

After smoothing, suitable as a floor build-up beneath, among others:

  • Carpet
  • Cork
  • Linoleum
  • Underfloor-heated floor coverings
  • PVC floor coverings
  • LVT and PVC design flooring

The floor covering is not bonded directly to UZIN PE 400. After it has fully dried, a suitable smoothing layer must always be applied first.

Also suitable as a bonding primer

UZIN PE 400 can also be used as a bonding primer on cement-based renovation floors with firmly adhering, water-resistant adhesive residues.

For water-resistant adhesive residues on a calcium sulfate or anhydrite floor, a suitable primer must be used, such as UZIN PE 360 PLUS or UZIN PE 375. Do not use UZIN PE 400 here as a moisture barrier.

Not suitable for

UZIN PE 400 is not intended for:

  • Floors below ground level
  • Basements
  • Rising damp
  • Floors with standing water
  • Calcium sulfate or anhydrite screeds with elevated residual moisture
  • Use as a moisture barrier under parquet or wooden floors
  • Use as a moisture barrier under rubber floor coverings
  • Direct bonding of floor coverings
  • Outdoor areas

With higher moisture content, rising damp, or use below ground level, a suitable epoxy or PU moisture barrier is required.

Application on concrete

A different system build-up applies when used on concrete:

  1. First treat absorbent concrete with UZIN PE 360 PLUS.
  2. Then apply one undiluted coat of UZIN PE 400.
  3. For this application, the maximum residual moisture content is 3.5 CM-%.
  4. Level the floor after it has dried completely.

For concrete, always have it checked whether this system build-up is suitable for the specific situation.

Substrate preparation

The substrate must be load-bearing, dimensionally stable, clean, sufficiently open, and free of cracks and substances that could reduce adhesion.

Remove oil, grease, dust, laitance, and weak or loose layers. Poorly bonded adhesive, smoothing-compound, and floor-covering residues must be removed by sanding, milling, brushing, or dust-free abrasive blasting.

Carefully sand mineral substrates and vacuum them thoroughly. Dense concrete surfaces, such as power-troweled or so-called blue concrete, may need to be shot-blasted.

When used as a moisture barrier:

  • The substrate must be dry on the surface
  • There must be no standing water
  • The surface must be sufficiently absorbent and open
  • The moisture content must be determined beforehand using the correct measurement method
  • A suitable sand-cement screed may contain a maximum of 4 CM-% residual moisture

Application as a two-coat moisture barrier

Stir UZIN PE 400 thoroughly before use. Use a rectangular application bucket and a fine-foam roller.

First coat

  1. Mix UZIN PE 400 with clean water in a 1:1 ratio.
  2. Apply the mixture thinly, evenly, and with complete coverage.
  3. Avoid thick layers and puddle formation.
  4. Allow the first coat to dry for approximately one hour under normal conditions.

Second coat

  1. Apply UZIN PE 400 undiluted.
  2. Spread the product thinly and evenly with a fine-foam roller.
  3. Avoid bare spots, thick coats and pooling.
  4. Allow the second coat to dry for approximately two hours.
  5. Then apply a suitable UZIN levelling compound.

Do not pour the product directly onto the floor. Clean tools immediately after use with water.

Consumption and drying time

Coat Mixing ratio Consumption of PE 400 Drying time
First coat Diluted 1:1 with water approx. 50–75 g/m² approx. 1 hour
Second coat Undiluted approx. 100–125 g/m² approx. 2 hours
Total moisture barrier Two coats approx. 150–200 g/m² approx. 3 hours

The drying times apply at approximately 20 °C and 65% relative humidity. Low temperatures, high humidity and excessively thick coats slow down drying.

Coverage per canister

When used as a complete two-coat moisture barrier:

Total consumption Coverage per 12 kg canister
150 g/m² approx. 80 m²
175 g/m² approx. 69 m²
200 g/m² approx. 60 m²

The amount of water required for the first coat is not included in this product consumption.

Why choose UZIN PE 400?

UZIN PE 400 offers a fast solution for cement-based floors with elevated residual moisture levels. The system is easy to apply with a roller and, under suitable conditions, can be levelled within approximately three hours.

The combination of fast drying, alkali resistance and high vapour density makes it a practical moisture barrier for suitable cement and sand-cement floors above ground level.
